Korea’s U-20 women’s national handball team won its first match at the World Junior Championships.

Korea, led by coach Oh Se-il (Gwangju City Corporation), defeated Mexico 33-20 in the first match of Group C on the first day of the 24th World Women’s Junior Handball Championship held in Skopje, North Macedonia on the 20th (Korean time).

Korea showed off its superiority, with Cha Seo-yeon (Incheon City Hall) scoring 8 goals and Kim Seo-jin (Gwangju City Corporation) scoring 6 goals.

In this competition, which was founded in 1977, Korea’s victory over Croatia in 2014 was its best performance ever.

In the previous competition, in 2022, it ranked 19th out of 32 countries.

Two years ago, Korea won the World Youth (Under 18) Championship held in North Macedonia, and after two years, they will again challenge for the top spot at the World Junior Championship, an under 20 event, at the same venue.
