The KT Wiz are back in winning mode with an extra-inning, focused effort.
KT won 8-5 at home against the Samsung Lions of the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu, South Korea, on Nov. 21.
With the win, KT improved to 20 wins, 1 draw and 27 losses. Samsung, on the other hand, improved to 26-1 and 20-20.
The starting pitchers were strong. KT starter Yook Cheong-myeong pitched five innings, allowing one run on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts, but a bullpen misfire cost him the win. He threw 84 pitches, including 44 fastballs up to 148 kilometers, eight curves, 19 sliders, and 13 changeups. It was his highest pitch count of the season. He threw 83 pitches on April 23 against Suwon Hanwha and April 17 against Gochuk Kiwoom.
Samsung starter Won Tae-in wasn’t at full strength, but he pitched well, allowing three runs on seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts in five innings. He threw 100 pitches, including 41 fastballs, two curves, 22 sliders, 15 cutters, and 20 changeups that topped out at 149 mph. A dramatic eighth inning tiebreaker saved him from a loss.

KT took control of the game early. In the first inning, Rojas and Kim Min-hyuk singled to put runners on first and second with no outs, but Kang Baek-ho and Moon Sang-chul fouled out to first base and grounded out, respectively. However, Jang Sung-woo hit a single to center field to make it 1-0.

KT added another run in the eighth inning. Hwang Jae-gyun and Oh Yoon-seok singled, pinch-hitter Park Byung-ho walked to load the bases, and Rojas drew a walk-off single against reliever Lee Seung-min.
But Samsung had a promising eighth inning. In the top of the first, three consecutive singles by Kim Tae-hoon, Koo Ja-uk, and McKinnon brought in a run. KT then brought in closer Park Young-hyun early. Samsung had Kim Young-woong at the top of the order. The injury to third baseman Kim Young-woong had a butterfly effect. Kim Young-woong injured his right thumb while fielding a stolen base. He had to be replaced. Jeon Byung-woo rushed in but made a fielding error. The wedge run scored to seal the win for KT.
At the plate, Rojas had a three-hit blast. Jang Sung-woo and Hwang Jae-gyun added multi-hit efforts.
