Hwang Ki-Wook cries after winning goal: “I’m blessed every game”

Chungnam Asan FC scored a stoppage-time goal at home against Suwon Samsung Bluewings in a dramatic finish. It was multiplayer Hwang Ki-wook who saved the day for Chungnam Asan.

Chungnam Asan overcame a 1-2 loss to Gimpo FC with a 1-0 home victory over Suwon in the 13th round of the Hana Bank K League 2 2024 at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 21 at the Yi Sunshin Sports Complex. The team moved up to seventh place with 17 points and entered the mid-table race in earnest.

The hosts took the initiative in the match and had the numerical advantage in the 34th minute when Suwon midfielder Kazuki was sent off, but were unable to open the Suwon goal. However, Hwang Ki-wook broke the deadlock. He converted a loose ball in second-half stoppage time with a mid-range shot that eventually found the back of the net to give his team a dramatic victory.

In his post-match press conference, Hwang said, “We haven’t been in a good mood lately after the loss to Gimpo. We desperately needed a win, so it felt good to get it,” he smiled.

Hwang Ki-wook was seen crying after the final whistle when the victory was confirmed. We wondered why.

“When I came to Asan, it meant a lot to me. I’m trying to put meaning into every day. I feel blessed every time I play.”

-How did you feel about the match?
We haven’t been in a good mood lately. We needed a win badly, so it felt good to win.

-When you took the shot, did you feel like it was going to be a goal?

-What was the significance of the win over Suwon?
It was a clean sheet to get where we want to go. It was the first game of the second round robin. The players came together and won, nothing more, nothing less.
