Jordan Henderson has not been named in England’s preliminary squad for Euro 2024.
The English Football Association (FA) today announced the preliminary call-ups to the England squad for Euro 2024.
The list is filled with some of England’s biggest stars, including Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, and Cole Palmer. But one name didn’t look familiar. It was Henderson.
Henderson is a former England national soccer team midfielder. After joining Liverpool in the 2011/12 season, he was initially criticized for his lack of skill, but he worked hard to improve. Henderson played for Liverpool for 12 years, scoring 33 goals and providing 57 assists in 492 games.
His leadership skills also earned him the captaincy of Liverpool. With Liverpool, Henderson won trophies in the UEFA Champions League (UCL), FIFA Club World Cup, and Premier League (PL).
The years were not kind to him. Henderson’s form has been declining. In the summer transfer window, Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittifaq wanted to sign him. Their asking price was around 20 billion won. Liverpool, who could pocket the transfer fee, and Henderson, who could earn a huge salary, were right.
However, life in Saudi Arabia wasn’t easy for Henderson, who struggled with the country’s sweltering heat and high 사설토토 humidity. In addition, he needed to play in a higher-level league in order to qualify for Euro 2024 in June.
Henderson wanted to return to the PL, but things didn’t work out as he had hoped. Eventually, in the winter transfer window, he moved out of the PL to Dutch side Ajax. It wasn’t a bad move. Henderson made 12 appearances in half a season and improved his form.
He was also consistently called up to the England national team. Naturally, it looked like Henderson would make it to Euro 2024, but then things started to change. Younger options such as Kobe Mainu emerged. Established contenders like Bellingham and Rice were playing well.
Eventually, Henderson was dropped from the preliminary roster. In total, Southgate selected 33 players. Only 26 of them will play at the Euros. Henderson didn”t make the list and, unless something happens, he won”t be playing at the Euros.
