Marcus Rashford, 26, who signed a new five-year contract with Manchester United last summer, has been placed on the release list after just one season. Owner Jim Ratcliffe (71-England) is determined to sell Rashford this summer as part of a major overhaul of the team. There is a view within the club that Rashford should be sold.
“Ratcliffe owner Ineos has revealed that he is willing to sell Rashford in a bid to overhaul the squad,” Football Transfers reported on Monday (June 19). The pressure of failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League (UCL) will hinder United’s recruitment, which could lead to a number of players leaving the club. Rashford, who earns £425,000 a week, including bonuses, is a subject of keen interest within the club,” the report said.
Under Ratcliffe, the Red Devils are eager to move on from their disappointing past. Ratcliffe’s first priority is the recruitment department. The Red Devils are courting Newcastle’s Dan Ashworth (53-plus England) after the departure of director of recruitment John Murtagh (53), who was heavily criticized for his recruitment efforts.
There’s one area of the squad that’s just as urgent for United as the signings, and that’s cleaning house. Under Mourinho, the club’s wage structure has been shaken up with many players being overpaid, one of which is Rashford, who is currently the highest paid player on the team. Rashford’s weekly wage is £425,000, a gap of around £75,000 (about $130 million) between him and Casemiro (32), the second highest paid player on the team.
Ratcliffe didn’t understand his predecessors who gave Rashford a big contract. “Rashford’s re-signing was approved by Mutterup and owner Joel Glazer (56-USA),” says Football Transfers. Ineos said they would not have made such a deal if they were running the club at the time. The re-signing was a major factor in Mutterf’s decision to leave the club.”
Rashford was the club’s ace in the hole last season, scoring 30 goals (9 assists) in all competitions and extending his contract until 2028, but after signing the new deal, his form plummeted and he became the club’s problem child. Unlike last season, his sloppy dribbling and inaccurate shooting disrupted the flow of the offense.
If Rashford is placed on the release list, there is a significant chance that major European clubs will approach him. Paris Saint-Germain, who are expected to sign Kylian Mbappe, 25, from Real Madrid, have been linked with a move for Rashford. Barcelona, who are also in need of 먹튀검증 attacking options on the flanks, have also shown interest in Rashford.
England international Rashford is a “one-club man” who has played exclusively for United since his debut. He burst onto the scene as a teenager, scoring goals in bunches. With 131 goals (63 assists) in 398 official appearances for United, Rashford reached a career-high last season when he reached the 30-goal plateau for the first time in his career.
It was the first time a United striker has reached the 30-goal mark in a season since Robin van Persie (40) in 2012-13. It looked like Rashford’s best qualities were finally coming to the fore, with his pace and shooting ability at their peak, but this season has been a complete 180-degree turnaround. With just eight goals (five assists) in 39 official games, he has lost his destructive power.
