‘Shutout win’ Jung Kwan-jang topples IBK Kookmin Bank, jumps to 4th place!


Women’s professional volleyball team Jung Kwan-jang swept IBK to move into fourth place.

Jung Kwan-jang swept IBK IBK in straight sets 3-0 (25-17 27-25 25-21) in the fourth round of the Dodram 2023-24 V-League Women’s Division at the Hwaseong Gyeonggi Town Indoor Gymnasium on April 18. The season series is now 2-2.

Jung Kwan-jang won the first set comfortably thanks to the even performance of Mega, 토토 Jia, Park Eun-jin, Lee So-young, and Jung Ho-young.

The second set was close. After surrendering the early lead, Jung was down 10-17. After surrendering the first 20-point lead, Jung fought back to 22-24. After saving a set point for IBK, Kwanjang managed to turn it around with a mega kickoff from deuce to take the second set.

The third set was tense until midway through, when Park Eun-jin and Lee So-young took a 21-19 lead. Jia’s open attack on match point sealed the victory. Despite double-digit scoring from Abe Crombie (18 points) and Hwang Min-kyung (11 points), IBK was unable to prevent the shutout loss. With the loss, IBK dropped to fifth place with its fourth straight defeat.

Boasting a 64.71% attack success rate, Jia scored 24 points. Jia (11 points), Park Eun-jin (9 points), Lee So-young, and Jung Ho-young (over 7 points) also contributed.

With 11 wins and 13 losses (36 points), Jung Kwan-jang leapfrogged IBK (11 wins and 13 losses – 33 points) into fourth place. After a slow start to the season, Jung Kwan-jang came alive when ‘Ace’ Lee So-young returned from injury, and the power of Mega, who led the team’s offense, shone through to finish the first half in fourth place. The gap between them and third-place GS Caltex (43 points) is 7.
