Inbee Park, the “golf queen” who contested the International Olympic Committee (IOC) election, will receive the results on Aug. 8.
According to the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee, the announcement of the results and a press conference will be held at the Main Press Center (MPC) at the Palais des Congrès in Paris, France, on the afternoon of Aug. 8 (local time).
The date was initially announced as the 7th, but has now been rescheduled to the 8th.
During the Games, athletes will vote for four replacements for IOC members whose terms are coming to an end, including Korean Table Tennis Federation President Yoo Seung-min, who was elected at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games.
Park, who has 21 career victories, including seven majors, on the U.S. Women’s Professional Golf (LPGA) Tour, was selected to represent South Korea in the election last year after competing with Jin Jong-oh (now a member of the National Assembly) in shooting and Kim Yeon-kyung (Heungkuk Life) in volleyball.
In addition to Park, 29 other athletes from around the world are running in this year’s election.
Other candidates include former U.S. track and field sprint star Allyson Phillips and Aaron Szilazi (Hungary), who won three consecutive men’s sabre team titles (London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020).
Park has been campaigning since arriving in France on March 22.
Park, who announced her second pregnancy before arriving in Paris, has been traveling around the athletes’ village to meet with athletes and ask for their support.
On April 4, she visited Le Golf Nacional in Guiancourt, near Paris, where the final round of the Olympic men’s golf tournament was held, to meet and cheer on the athletes.
As Olympians, Athletes’ Commissioners represent the voice of athletes at the IOC and are treated in the same way as regular IOC members. They are elected by athletes around the world and serve an eight-year term.
Park’s victory means that South Korea will retain three IOC members, along with Korean Sports Minister Lee Ki-heung and International Ice Skating Union (ISU) President Kim Jae-yul.
Park would also become the first female IOC member from South Korea. 메이저사이트
