KOGAS wins first back-to-back games of the season against Sono

Professional basketball team Daegu KOGAS recorded its first back-to-back wins of the season against Goyang.

KOGAS was led by Kim Nak-hyun (18 points) and Cha Bawi (14 points) to defeat Goyang Sono 84-76 in the 2023-2024 regular season at Goyang Gymnasium on Tuesday.

Duvan McDowell, who wore a KOGAS jersey as a substitute foreign player during the season, scored 13 points, including seven in the third quarter, to help the team pull off the upset.

KOGAS, which had defeated Sono two days earlier, won again in the return match at the same venue to improve to 4-0 on the season with its second straight win. KOGAS won their third meeting of the season against Sono, improving their record to 2-1.

SONO came into the game in a three-game slump, having lost back-to-back home games in Goyang, and faced the added complication of losing star guard Lee Jung-hyun to a shoulder injury.

After falling behind 0-7 early in the first quarter, Sono overcame the deficit thanks to the combination play of Chinanu Onuaku (15 points) and Lee Jung-hyun (15 points) and back-to-back baskets by Jeon Sung-hyun.

In the second quarter, Han Ho-bin added to the scoring with three three-pointers, and SONO went into halftime with a 41-36 lead.

SONO brought Onuaku to the bench to rest him in the third quarter.

In the meantime, KOGAS used two 3-pointers from Samjosef Belangel (10 points) and a Maxwell steal and 3-pointer to close out the third quarter with a 58-55 lead.

Sono suffered a setback less than two minutes into the fourth quarter when Lee Jung-hyun fell and injured his right shoulder. Lee went to the bench and did not return to the court until the end of the game.

The rejuvenated KOGAS extended its lead to seven points with back-to-back baskets from Cha Bawi and Kim Nak-hyun.

SONO cut the deficit to 72-76 with five consecutive points from Kim Kang-sun, but KOGAS would not allow the visitors to get any closer until Chabawi hit a three-pointer with 1:45 left in the game.

Chabawi hit another three-pointer with 1:23 left in regulation to make it 82-74 and seal the win for KOGAS. 토토사이트
