‘Kaiser’ Kim Min-jae at UCL…a welcome reunion with an old teammate

Kim Min-jae’s performance against Manchester United earned him the title of ‘Kaiser’. It was also a welcome reunion with an old teammate from his days in Turkuye.

Bayern Munich defeated Manchester United 4-3 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League (UCL) Group A match of the 2023-24 season at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, at 4:00 a.m. ET on June 21.

The Bavarians lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Kane was up front, followed by Gnabry, Mbappe, Sane, Kimmich, Goretzka, Davies, Kim Min-jae, Upamecano, and Reimer. Ulreich was in goal.

United countered with the same 4-2-3-1 formation. Hoilearn started up front, followed by Rashford, Bruno, Pellistri, Eriksen, Casemiro, Reguilon, Lisandro, Lindelof, and Dalot. Onana wore the goalkeeping gloves.

It was a back-and-forth affair. United took the initiative and pressured Munich hard. Just as they were starting to get their groove back, a goal from Munich shook them. In the 28th minute, Sane exchanged passes with Kane and fired a shot from the right side for the first goal. Keeping the momentum going, Munich added another goal in the 32nd minute through Gnabry.

Down two goals in the blink of an eye, United settled down to fight back at the start of the second half. Four minutes into the second half, Hojelun pulled one back. But the chances went to Munich again. Six minutes into the second half, the Bavarians were awarded a penalty kick, and Kane stepped up to the plate and slotted home to extend the lead.

United pulled a goal back in the 44th minute through Casemiro. But Mathieu Debuchy scored the winner in stoppage time. United pushed for a late equalizer when Casemiro headed home a pass from Bruno Fernandez, but the game ended in a 4-3 Munich victory.

Kim Min-jae’s performance shined again. Although the team conceded three goals, none of them came from his position. On the day, Kim made two blocked shots, one interception, and one successful tackle. In particular, he made six clearances, attempted 106 passes, completed 97 passes, and won seven positional battles, earning him the highest rating among Munich’s defenders.

German media also took notice of Kim, nicknaming him Kaiser (German for emperor). The German outlet Bavarian Football said, “Kim did a great job of competing against United’s attackers and intercepting all passes from the back. He fought back well when Munich fell behind early on, and after setting the tone for the game, he wiped out the United attackers.”

Despite erasing the opposing strikers in the match, there was a heartwarming scene afterward. Kim was seen 토토사이트 on social media greeting and hugging United’s Altay Bindre. The two were teammates at Fenerbahçe in the 2021-22 season. With a solid defense, Fenerbahçe finished second in the league.

Bindre is a United goalkeeper from Turkuye. He has been a regular for Fenerbahçe since the 2019-20 season. He spent a year with the club in 2021-22 when Kim Min-Jae joined. Bindre joined United this season from Feyenoord. He has yet to make his debut since the start of the season.
